Introduction

I can’t tell you or predict what this blog will become, if anything. In my extensive search to discover my family’s roots I’ve met many genealogists and enthusiasts alike, and have spent countless hours searching through old documents from all over Eastern Europe. Along the way I have been grateful to come across some blogs and websites that are in the process of indexing old records. One day with the click of a few buttons you will be able to find every document that exists for your ancestors, I don’t doubt it. In the last decade digitization of church archives in particular has ended up with literally millions, if not already billions, of indexed – meaning it will pop up when you type something into a search bar – records being available at our fingertips.
I thought I would attempt to give back to the community by doing some indexing myself. I can’t guarantee I’ll get very far, because I’m incredibly busy. The first place I want to index is the village where my grandfather came from, currently on the Belorussian side of the Polish border but it wasn’t always so. I was unable to find anything about his family for a long time, and so I hope to demystify this place for others whose ancestors may also have come from there. Progress is already underway, check out the Dzieniewicze page!
Cheers
-Tom
